Welcome to the continent of Rakkon. Set years after the famed Dragon Wars which left the land a scorched and barren wasteland unfit for human habitation, the story of Feather revolves around the relationship between two of the closest of friends: Leeka, a self-proclaimed full blooded dragon, and her best friend, Sehven, a half-breed who dreams to become a great dragonslayer.
From Steve Uy, the creator of Eden's Trail, comes his first creator-owned project. A tale of trust. A story of friendship. And some big dragons on the side. Coming this August, only from Image comics.

Q: What exactly is Feather?

A: Feather was originally a 108-page black and white comic I did while I was a senior in the School of Visual Arts in NY. It was picked up by Fanboy Ent. for publication starting June 2001, but was cancelled due to Fanboy's fold that same year. Later that year I began work on Eden's Trail for Marvel comics, and Feather took a backseat for the time being. Towards the end of Eden's Trail, I realized that I had to rethink my priorities as a creator, and that doing a book which I was in complete control of was the only thing that I should have been doing at this stage of my life. I decided to reenvision the entire story of Feather, to completely reillustrate it from scratch using everything I learned from my work on Eden's Trail as a five or six-issue miniseries, and submit it to Image. The rest you already know.

Q: What is it about?

A: It's a story of friendship between two star-crossed friends. Leeka is a self-proclaimed full blooded dragon, but her best friend, Sehven, is a half-breed who wishes to become a great dragonslayer to fulfill a promise he made at his father's deathbed. Taking place after the great Dragonwars in the continent of Rakkon, however, dragons are long thought to be extinct. The main conflict of the story, however, will not lie in just how Sehven will accomplish his goal, but rather, what the consequences will be after he actually fulfills it. Feather is not a fairy tale.

Q: What is the production team?

A: I will be handling everything on this book, from the writing, to the pencilling and inking, the coloring, even the lettering.

Q: What is the intended audience for Feather?

A: Feather is not a kiddy story. It is not a comedy, despite its visual stylings. It has elements of death and revenge that, although not the main theme of the book, weigh in heavily towards the final, nonapologetic conclusion. However, at the same time, this is the kind of book that you can take to your mother or the stereotypical "comic-book-hating girlfriend". It has a universal message and a simple narrative that makes it accessible to all audiences.

Q: Is this a one-shot series? Will it continue after its end, if it's a success?

A: No. Feather has a beginning, middle, and definitive end. It will not continue after its original conclusion. However, there may be a followup series that takes place in the same world, but on the mainland, which crosses over into the events chronicled in Feather and acts as sequel of sorts to the original story. Top secret for now, of course.

Q: What can we expect to see in Feather?

A: Feather's not a grand adventure like Eden's Trail. We won't see fancy designs or a world tour that takes us to wild locales with each issue. It's a relationship story that focuses on two main characters. What set designs we will see however, will be far more realized than in Eden's Trail. With this book, the story will take precedence over fancy art and designs. This is not a "cool" book. If done right, this book should make you care about the characters. I think that's about the most ambitious thing you can expect from any form of entertainment these days.
